Jazz Organist

News – April 15, 2010

Right now I am working towards my graduation recital here in Enschede which will be on May 25. Looking back to the past season I just can say that it’s been a superb time with a lot of great (and some new) musicians that I could play with. In the last time I played with, just to name a few: On guitar Attila Muehl, David Riano, Durk Hijma, Philip Czarnecki, Vincent Koning, Christian Hassenstein. And on drums: Dominik Hahn, Julian Fau, Norbert Sasse, Jan Niemeyer, Ben Bönninger, Sebastian Netta.

All these people give me inspiration and the will to always taking my heavy B3 organ. Please come back soon for more gigs and news.

I started my final year in Enschede which I will conclude with a graduation concert that will probably be in June. Besides my school activities who are reduced to playing in the ArtEZ Big Band again and
having organ and piano classes I have a lot of different gigs with interesting people.  Since coming back from Barcelona I played with  my bands triOrgel and Grapefruit Coffee, musicians like Sebastian Netta, Molly Duncan, Christian Hassenstein and I also had the chance to play with a close harmony quartet plus Hammond and drums. Besides that there are many project or gig related constellations I play with which also is a lot of fun.

My life here has become quite normal again here with the daily routine of classes at the Conservatory, practising, gigs.  I want to take the chance and introduce my recents projects I play in and the people I play with.

- At the Enschede Conservatory I play in a trio with Italian saxophone player Jossy Botte and drummer Dominik Hahn. We also play a lot with singer Agi Rozycka.

- I have a new promising organ-guitar-drums-trio in Cologne. With Attila Muehl on guitar and Jan Niemeyer on drums. New music will be available for listening, soon.

- Dominik also is the drummer in two piano trios I play in, one with bass player Ruud Ouwehand and another with bass player Knud Krautwig.

- The old “Grapefruit Coffee” trio (with Dominik on the drums, too) of course is still playing sometimes, but it has become more difficult since guitar player David Riano lives in Berlin now.

Also I play in a few gig-related constellations, you can see some of them at the “Live” page.  Hope to see you at one of the gigs, soon!

Now I’m already back in Enschede for two weeks. It is good to have Hammond lessons again and see my old friends. As you see I had a few gigs already and I hope there will be a lot more, soon. Of course I miss my time in Barcelona and I’m very happy that I made all those experiences. Thanks to my wonderful teachers there (there is a new photo with Iñaki Sandoval in the photo section) and my fellow students this time is unforgettable!

I am happy to have (besides my most important Hammond lessons from John Hondorp) piano lessons from Sebastian Altekamp from now on! I hope this way my piano knowledge from Barcelona will deepen and extend.

The last days of my Erasmus time here are passing by, and I’m organising all the things necessary to start a new episode in Enschede/NL. When I look back I can tell that my way of playing the piano has changed a lot, and those changes are also noticeable at the organ. And of course all the new friends I met here – that all made it an essential time in my life, I think that I’ll benefit from that a long time.

In the meantime I got a few new gigs, please check them out to see if you like to come over. Thanks for reading, a good new year to everyone.

It feels as if my Erasmus time in Barcelona is over really soon! In the third week of January I am already going back to the Netherlands/Germany. But before my departure we all have our exams at the Liceu and my parents come to Spain for a christmas visit! I will work on my solo transcriptions and play the organ in the winter holidays as the Liceu is closed.

How time flies when you’re having fun! We are spending a lot of our time at the Liceu, practising and rehearsing with our combos and ensembles. Yesterday we went to the Gran Teatre de Liceu and saw the opera “Le Nozze de Figaro”. Usually we also go to the weekly sessions/concerts at Heliogábal or the Robadors 23. You can hear a lot of really good musicians here!

I updated my biography site and added a few more photos! Recently I found a video of my old group, “The Fusioneers”, which was my first band! The video, a 55 second clip from a concert in April 2006, can be found at Youtube. But please excuse the bad sound quality!

I am now studying at the Liceu in Barcelona, meeting a lot of great musicians and going to concerts and sessions.  I met a few local organists and being inspired a lot! The decision to leave the conservatory in Enschede for one semester was a really good one. It is important to learn trough all experiences here – good or bad! My main issue is the daily switch between the Hammond organ in my room (where I practice) and the pianos at school. It tells me where I am and shows me that the Hammond really is my identity. I am happy to have my own organ here.
